FA Cup Giant-Killings: Part Three

The FA CupThis coming weekend is one of the most anticipated of the football calendar – FA Cup Third Round weekend. Here’s part three of my memorable giant-killings…

Tranmere Rovers 4 Southampton 3.

Tranmere were in the First Division and Southampton the Premiership so although not a giant-killing when compared to Wrexham beating Arsenal and Sutton beating Coventry, this one was an absolute classic.

I was working in Manchester at the time and watched the game in a hotel room, so this game has special memories for me as it coincides with the first time I ever ordered room service!

Tranmere were 3-0 at half-time, but a hat-trick from Paul Rideout and a late winner from Graham Barlow sealed one of the most remarkable comebacks in FA Cup history.

Indeed it was a fantastic game for everyone connected with Tranmere Rovers. However, it was Stuart Barlow (Everton, Oldham, Wigan, Tranmere, Stockport, Bury, Morecambe, Southport, Tranmere Masters) who scored the winner.
