What we have learned this weekend – 5th/6th Jan 08

Everton 0 Oldham 1Cup upsets can still happen. Seven clubs (Blackburn, Everton, Birmingham, Bolton, Colchester, Swindon and Brighton) were knocked out and another six (Derby, Fulham, Newcastle, Norwich, Swansea, and Tranmere) held to draws by lower league opposition.

Norwich need a striker. It’s obvious for anyone to see that Jamie Cureton needs a ‘big man’ to play off, and at the moment if Dion Dublin isn’t that man he struggles.

My predictions are pretty dodgy. In a recent post I predicted that Bristol City, Chasetown, Huddersfield, Ipswich and Stoke could upset the applecart in the FA Cup. City lost 2-1 to Middlesbrough, Chasetown went down 3-1 to Cardiff, Huddersfield beat Birmingham 2-1, Ipswich lost 1-0 to Portsmouth and Stoke drew 0-0 with Newcastle. Not a great return.

Chris Martin and Ryan Jarvis should not be allowed anywhere near the Norwich City first team. Both played their first games for a while against Bury, and were both woeful. There are only so many chances players can be given, and I wonder if they have both had their last.

Artur Boruc is unlikely to be signing for Arsenal any time soon. The big Polish goalkeeper has just signed a new contract at Celtic Park.

6. Harry still can’t seem to understand that if he signs lots of African players, they will go and play in the African Cup of Nations. He’s only got 14 other players in the entire club apparently.
